Please find answers to some frequently asked questions about the Bottle Top Factory Project at the bottom of this page.

Frequently asked questions:

Where is the Bottle Top Factory?
It is situated below Gwavas Estate in Newlyn in some disused warehouses surrounded by green land.

What sort of creative people will use the new studios?
Painters, sculptors, ceramicists, filmmakers, jewellers and textile artists among other creative practitioners. We wish to respect the neighbours of the factory and so we are unable to give tenancies to people with noisy work such as fabrication. We will be creating a ‘considerate working policy’ for all of the tenants to sign when they begin a lease as for many artists everyone keeping music quiet etc is important in a working environment.

Will there be parking for tenants at the new studios?
Yes there is plenty of off street parking on the site. The factory once employed around 40 people so it has a large dedicated car park. However, our studio registration survey has shown that over 70% of tenants will be arriving by public transport, on foot or by bike as most of the potential tenants live in or around Newlyn.

Will the studios be a vibrant community for artists?
Yes we are aiming to get a good mix of emerging and established artists. We want tenants who will use their spaces regularly but we do understand that artists usually need to do other jobs to supplement their income from creative work. 85% of those who have registered for a studio at the Bottle Top Factory have said that they also have another job and therefore use their studios between 2-4 days per week (as opposed to full-time) and so we do not expect to have more than half of the 20 tenants at the studios at the same time.

When is the deadline for applications?
We are encouraging people to apply now as it will help us to plan the likely mix of different media used in the spaces and to complete our designs in a way that successfully caters to the needs of those who want to become tenants. However we expect to keep applications open for many months to come.

Will the studios hold evening events?
No we are unlikely to hold many evening events as our focus is on creating professional work spaces for individuals and because other venues around Newlyn such as The Centre and Newlyn Art Gallery are dedicated to public access for arts events and are more geared to audiences.

How do I apply for a studio?
To apply for a studio at the Bottle Top Factory please simply fill in the registration form found via clicking the red button above on this website page.

I don’t need to rent a studio but I would like to show my support for the project. Is there anything I can do?
We have been overwhelmed by the support we have had for the project from people who live in Newlyn. We would suggest that everyone who lives in Newlyn should fill in the Neighbourhood Plan survey to have their say about lots of different things that could benefit Newlyn which can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/GGQBC67

We are welcoming questions about the project from the public or potential tenants via email to henry.garfit(at)yahoo.co.uk
